Houston, TX

Elkay Interior Systems had fun with both scale and materials in the Francis Elementary School project. The mantra for the new space was “Soaring to New Heights.” Oversized panels were created to run the exterior café wall, with large animal clouds and a reflective Houston skyline. Trees crossed from wall art onto window clings, supporting positive phrases on abstract tree leaves. Soaring falcons hover over the seating, and fun fabric halos connect the perimeter to the center of the space for a complete atmosphere creation.

The furniture is fully complemented by the art, using vibrant and modern colors. The high ceilings in the space allowed for large scale artwork. The art that brands the café was created to be visible from the exterior hallway as students pass, drawing them into the space. The environment is more prominent and exciting than a typical elementary school’s dining area. EIS served as project managers and artists for this project, along with manufacturing and installing all elements.
